Welcome
WaveRunners is committed to creating a positive competitive experience for each individual swimmer. Emphasis is placed on proper stroke mechanics, social-emotional well-being, team bonding and overall physical conditioning. Our athletes create and re-evaluate their personal swimming goals regularly and are supported in realizing these aspirations throughout their time on our team.
Novice Team
Swimmers are required to know freestyle with side breathing as well as backstroke. Emphasis is on learning the 4 competitive swim strokes and building meaningful relationships with one another.
Workouts are all non-holiday Monday, Wednesday and Friday eveninging throughout the school year from 5:30-7:00 p.m. (non-swim dates are noted below).
Intermediate/Advanced Team
Swimmers are required to know all four competitive strokes and be able to comfortably complete 10 x 50's on a 1:00 base as well as a set of 5 x 100 IM's on a 2:00 base. Focus is on conditioning, stroke mechanics and goal-oriented training.
Workouts are all non-holiday Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings throughout the school year from 5:30-7:00 p.m. (non-swim dates are noted below).

Space is limited to only 36 participants
In order to ensure that each individual swimmer is being seen throughout every workout, the team is limited to only 36 particpants led by three coaches. The coaching staff is made up of seasoned coaches with decades of experience at the age group, collegiate, middle school and high school levels.
Virginia Gustafson
Novice Team Head Coach
Virginia "Gini" holds a Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education. She was a club swimmer in her home state of Hawaii, as well as a competitive swimmer and waterpolo player in college. Her experience and education make her a valuable mentor for both the physical and socio-emotional growth of her athletes.
Tara Shima
Advanced Team Head Coach
Tara has over 30 years of swim coaching experience along with decades of experience teaching Kinesiology at Santa Monica College. She swam age group throughout her childhood, competed in college and is still an avid ocean swimmer. Her love for the sport is matched only by her care and respect for her athletes.
Evan Rasch
Intermediate Team Coach
Evan is a seasoned coach, former high school champion swimmer and a teacher with years of experience both in and out of the water. His extensive coaching experience includes middle school, high school junior varsity and varsity as well as club. Evan is fantastic with children and brings an artistic element to the world of swimming as he himself is a musician and actor who knows how to balance multiple talents and inspires his athletes to do the same
Upcoming meets
November 9th: Falcon November Novice Meet
This is a USA Swim Meet meaning that swimmers can achieve official times within the club organization. You do need to register with USA Swimming and pay the fee to be a member. In addition to the required USA Membership, there is a fee from the Falcon Team to join the meet in order to cover administrative fees. The cost is $15 entry fee plus $6 per event. Swimmers must let coaches know they are planning to attend the meet by October 25th. Entry fees are also due by the 25th as well. Payment can be made via cash, check or Venmo.
